J&K Govt to develop all tourist potential areas in Akhnoor: Sham

Jammu, The Jammu & Kashmir Government is endeavoring to explore possibilities to tap all pilgrim tourism spots in Akhnoor area. He said that the area has many ancient sites having historical background, which need to be developed as pilgrim tourism.
Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma disclosed this while interacting with cross sections of people during his day long visit of Akhnoor today. Giving details of various projects launched for the beautification of Akhnoor town, the Minister said that right bank of Chenab shore has been developed to attract tourists. He said that more facilities for the tourist attraction will be created, which include construction of a building of Tourist Reception Centre. He said conservation work of Akhnoor Fort is in full swing.
Mr. Sham said that two sites namely Dori Dager and Sumah have been brought on the tourist map and Government will develop both these sites for tourist attraction. He said thousands of devotees of Baba Mai Mal throng daily at Dori Dager and Government will create all necessary facilities for the tourists there. A project costing Rs. 4.50 crore has been conceived for the development of Sumah and work will start soon on this project, the Minister added.
To give boost to sports activities in the area, the Minister said that Government is contemplating to organize water sports activities on Chenab River. He said that efforts will be made to hold National Rafting Competition during this summer. He said that all traditional games will also be revived for the entertainment of the rural masses, adding that Government has already decided to develop a stadium near Bhalwal Brahmna area which was a long pending demand of the youth.
